Quality & Process Control

The quality of castings produced at JDFF is the result of rigorous control and attention at every stage of the manufacturing process. Strict adherence to process standards ensures consistent quality, which is of utmost importance to specifiers and project owners.

As part of our Quality & Process Control, the following tests and inspections are implemented:

Thermal Analysis

  • The temperature of the metal is monitored throughout the melting cycle.
  • Carbon and silicon content is determined at this stage, as it directly affects the material’s strength.
  • The degree of nodularity is also evaluated.

Spectrographic Analysis

  • A chemical analysis of the metal in its solid state is carried out to determine the exact percentage of all elements.
  • This is conducted throughout the melting cycle using an Optical Emission Spectrograph.

Metallographic Examination

  • The microstructure of the cast sample is examined using a metallurgical microscope to ensure material integrity.

Mechanical Tests

  • Tensile testing of separate cast bars is performed and compared to applicable standards.

Visual Inspection

  • All castings are visually inspected by our Quality Control staff prior to dispatch to ensure full compliance with specifications and freedom from defects.

Final Load-Bearing Assessment

  • The most critical step of the process is assessing the actual casting load-bearing capabilities using a Compression Test Machine.
  • All results are based on international standards, classifying the castings according to their load-bearing capacities.
  • All tests are conducted in-house. On request, load testing can be performed by a third-party inspection body or witnessed in the presence of the client and/or their representative.
